Assembly of Wooden Structure

To assemble the wooden structure, first erect a column on the foundation and cross-joint a column connecting beam at the top of the column. Place the headpiece on top, insert the beams in the front and rear direction, and then place the purlin in the right angle to complete. For bracket unit houses or winged houses, place the headpiece and then the bracket pieces.

  • Pillar

    Pillars are divided into circular, square, and polygonal columns according to the cross-sectional shape. It can be divided into cylindrical columns, tapered columns, and entasis columns according to the elevation shape, and it can be divided into outer pillar and inner pillar according to their location. The column connecting beam is a part that connects the column head horizontally to the left and right.

    Beam

    The beam is a horizontal structural part that connects the front and back of a building and plays the role of receiving the weight of the roof. The names of the beam vary depending on the location and use. There are the largest and longest girders, and there are intermediate and top beams placed on the girders, and back beams, which are short beams placed before and after the girders.

    Purlin

    The purlin connects the left and right of the building, and is placed on top of the wooden structure and holds the rafters. According to the placement position, it is divided into main purlin, intermediate purlin, and top purlin, with the top purlin placed at the very top. Purlin is classified into rounded round purlin, square-shaped square purlin, and octagonal purlin according to their cross-sectional shapes.

    Ridge purlin

    After placing the ridge purlin, a ritual called framework completion ceremony is held. This is a ritual that announces the completion of the house and recognizes the hard work of the craftsmen.

  • Bracket set

    A bracket set is a combination of the parts on a column that supports the beam and purlin. Usually, the bracket set consists of a headpiece, an ancon, an elaborate curlicue ornamentation at the top of a pillar, and bracket support, and is divided into column-top complex bracket, multiple complex bracket, and bracket wing types.
